And we have such trust through Christ toward God. Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think of anything as being from ourselves, but our sufficiency is from God, (2 Corinthians 3:4-5 NKJV)
The Miracle of America is ONLY explained by these words from Paul, ‘an Apostle of Jesus Christ!’ As the European immigrants left the tyrannical oppression of more than 5000 years of historical oppression after oppression, they realized there had to be something better, and the idea that it is possible itself came to them through The Bible as a seed planted in what they found to be a soil of richest type.
But as they began this new and grand opportunity, they found the same history becoming their own as they had a common ingredient to pollute the life of men in a society of people who have repeatedly found themselves INSUFFICIENT to overcome the awful ingredient that pollutes and destroys every society. It was best described by Jeremiah by the words, “The heart is deceitful above all things, And desperately wicked; Who can know it? I, the LORD, search the heart, I test the mind, Even to give every man according to his ways, According to the fruit of his doings. (Jeremiah 17:9-10 NKJV)
Every society of fallen man has ended up producing the same result. Men living life in a city soon realize there are ways to live that benefit self but harm another(s). The results have repeatedly automated and even animated all of earth’s history. Paul again, inspired by his SUFFICIENT God answers what the founding men and women found in such a way:
Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another. (Galatians 5:19-26 NKJV)
‘Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like’ is only a portion of the accusatory list of common problems they faced as they found this grand experiment of untested freedom scary to the foundation!
Benjamin Franklin, Signer of the Declaration of Independence “[O]nly a virtuous people are capable of freedom. As nations become corrupt and vicious, they have more need of masters.”
“Whereas true religion and good morals are the only solid foundations of public liberty and happiness . . . it is hereby earnestly recommended to the several States to take the most effectual measures for the encouragement thereof.” Continental Congress, 1778 — http://www.free2pray.info/5founderquotes.html
Unfortunately, the ‘true religion and good morals’ are INSUFFICIENT alone, aren’t they? Yes, In Christ Alone do we find OUR SUFFICIENCY!
In Christ alone my hope is found;
He is my light, my strength, my song;
This cornerstone, this solid ground,
Firm through the fiercest drought and storm.
What heights of love, what depths of peace,
When fears are stilled, when strivings cease!
My comforter, my all in all—
Here in the love of Christ I stand.
In Christ alone, Who took on flesh,
Fullness of God in helpless babe!
This gift of love and righteousness,
Scorned by the ones He came to save.
Till on that cross as Jesus died,
The wrath of God was satisfied;
For ev’ry sin on Him was laid—
Here in the death of Christ I live.
There in the ground His body lay,
Light of the world by darkness slain;
Then bursting forth in glorious day,
Up from the grave He rose again!
And as He stands in victory,
Sin’s curse has lost its grip on me;
For I am His and He is mine—
Bought with the precious blood of Christ.
No guilt in life, no fear in death—
This is the pow’r of Christ in me;
From life’s first cry to final breath,
Jesus commands my destiny.
No pow’r of hell, no scheme of man,
Can ever pluck me from His hand;
Till He returns or calls me home—
Here in the pow’r of Christ I’ll stand.

That SUFFICIENCY to do and keep doing right originates from the awesome Creator of man Himself. Our societies will continue in our sordid histories until we take this SUFFICIENCY as permanent resident in the heart in a Kingdom God is Fashioning for His crowned creation. It is time He be Hallowed as He asked of us. (Matthew 6:9)
